Ford Crown Victoria & Mercury Grand Marquis Stereo Radio Self Test:

The upper level P100i radio used in the crown victoria lx's and grand marquis ls's has a built in diagnostic mode to aid in service. Among other things, the procedure listed below will turn each speaker on individually and display error codes & software revision information. Note that the radio is referred to as the "audio control module" and abbreviated A.C.M. in this document.

Speaker Walk-Around Test

NOTE: To enter the speaker walk-around test or ACM self-diagnostic mode, the ACM must be turned on and in radio tuner mode (AM/FM).
  1. To enter the speaker walk-around test, simultaneously press the ACM Preset Buttons 3 and 6 (1 and 3 for ULC radio only). 
  2. The speaker walk-around test stops at each speaker and applies sound to each speaker for about 1-2 seconds. Each speaker is tested and displayed on the ACM in the following sequence: RF, LF, LR, RR. 
  3. The speaker walk-around test automatically continues and tests Subwoofer 1, Subwoofer II and for speaker short (P100i only). If a short is present, SPKR SHORT will be displayed.
ACM Self-Diagnostic Mode (P100i Only)

NOTE: To enter the speaker walk-around test or ACM self-diagnostic mode, the ACM must be turned on and in radio tuner mode (AM/FM). The ACM self-diagnostic mode can only be entered while in the speaker walk-around test.

  1. The ACM self-diagnostic mode (P100i only) has five tests available:
  2. To enter these tests, press the preset button desired while in the speaker walk-around test. This will abort the speaker walk-around test and start the selected test. 
  3. To exit the ACM self-diagnostic mode, turn the ignition switch or ACM off. 
  4. If the concern remains and the fault is not detected, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.

Note: Lincoln town cars have speed sensitive volume feature where the volume of the radio rises as vehicle speed increases to compensate for road noise variations. To adjust the amount of compensation, hold down the power knob for a few seconds while the radio is on and "speed vol" appear. Then use the select button to adjust desired degree of speed volume compensation. In these vehicles, speed data is received via the scp databus from the anti-lock brake controller. The towncar radio obtains vehicle speed info via the is installed into your abs equipped crown vic, it may be possible to enable the speed sensitive feature by adding pins to the appropriate radio connector and connecting them to the vehicles databus.
