Notes:

-The engine and transmission ride on rubber. They are not bolted directly to the chassis of the vehicle.
-The engine is supported by two rubber mounts which mainly control Side-Side rocking. Backwards/Forwards rocking is controlled by the transmission mount that connects the tranny extension housing to the frame crossmember.
-Excessive idling in high temperature climates may embrittle the rubber inside the engine mounts with relatively little mileage on the odometer
-Crown victoria engine mounts are constructed such that even if the rubber seperates from the metal, the engine mount will still allow only minimal movement of the engine in relation the the vehicle's chassis. So you won't tear wiring harnsses, break accelerator cables, pop vacuum hoses off of the brake booster, etc. However, you will likely hear some objectionable noises from metal hitting on metal. Also, you might break exhaust manifold fasteners prematurely if an engine mount fails.
-Some performance minded indviduals have inquired about bolting the engine directly to the front crossmember without use of any rubber insulators in between. This would transmit lots of engine harmonics into the vehicle chassis that passengers might find objectionable. In rough driving situations where the frame flexes, this would also transmit lots of force onto the engine block where the mounts connect and would likely cause premature failure of the frame or the engine block in the mounting bung area.
-Use caution if attempting to re-use engine mounts from a vehicle that has been in collision. High energy crashes may seperate the metal from the rubber in the mount, or bend/tear/crack/fatigue the engine mount metal or the metal on the engine block to which the mount connects.
-To remove the engine cradle frame brackets, one needs to remove the suspension lower control arms to access the retaining bolts.

--TSB 01-01-01: 1998-2000 crownvic, 1998-2000 towncar, 1998-2000 grand marquis. The engine mounts on some vehicles may not exhibit satisfactory durability under severe operating conditions that may be encountered by Police, Taxi or Limo/Livery vehicles such as extended idling at high ambient temperatures. This may be caused by the extreme heat generated by the engine under these conditions. If service to the engine mounts is required, install new revised engine mounts which incorporate a heat shield. For left side engine mount, use 1W7Z-6038-BA - right side engine mount, use 1W7Z-6038-AA.
